Locals at Gode Ariyo Beach in Suba North, Homa Bay county, have suffered double tragedy after losing two villagers on the same day.
This was after a fisherman drowned on Sunday, while on a search mission for the body of a boy who had been attacked by a crocodile at the beach the same morning.
Nine-year-old Ken Onyango who is a pupil at God Nyasumbi Primary School was reportedly attacked and dragged into the lake by the reptile while washing his clothes on the shores.
According to County Beach Management Network Chair Edward Oremo, fishermen immediately swung into action, in a bid to recover his remains.
However, Anthony Odia, 23, who was using his boat is said to have slid off his boat while paddling and fell into the water and drowned.
“He was trying to paddle the boat to return back to the shore. It is not clear how he fell off the boat,” Oremo told the Nation.
Though his body was later found, that of the minor was still missing by Monday, according to county Director of Criminal Investigations boss Daniel Wachira.
Locals now want the Kenya Wildlife Service to control the movement of water animals from the lake by erecting barriers.
