Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho has faulted the media for allegedly being biased when reporting crime. The county boss said that media coverage has made Mombasa to look like the centre of crime in the nation.
Speaking on Monday during a security meeting in Mombasa, Joho said that other regions including Nairobi have crime that is not covered the way Mombasa criminal activities are reported.
According to him, this kind of reporting is affecting the economy and social life in Mombasa. However, Joho urged media personalities to continue sharing such information.
“There is crime even in other places too even in Nairobi, but strangely Mombasa always has to make the headlines,” Joho said as quoted by Barak a FM.
The governor asked local leaders to stop the blame game and act. He said that they need a collective approach to deal with crime.
Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki supported Joho by stating that community policing would end the menace. He also complained that the current picture is scaring away investors.
“We want the community policing recommendations that we gave to be implemented. We need to reassure visitors especially this festive season,” Faki said.
The most affected arrears are Kisauni and Nyali where criminal gangs rob and kill mercilessly.
