Governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and their Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua have announced a newly founded movement in the Ukambani region.
The trio said they had founded a movement dubbed, "the People's Empowerment Movement."
They jointly unveiled the initiative after holding a five-hour strategic meeting in a Nairobi hotel on Sunday.
The governors said the move is meant to define the Kamba Nation's development agenda.
"Our people have suffered a lot due to poor leadership. We have to provide leadership that changes the lives of our women, youth, and men," Ngilu said.
Kibwana said Ukambani residents need to be mobilized for the national issues such as the forthcoming census, Big Four agenda, and referendum.
"We need to change our past of poor leadership," Kibwana said.
By working together, the leaders said they hope to reverse the apathy that has crept into the region.
"Our meeting focused on the strategy to move our people from poverty to prosperity. We need to move our people from hopelessness to hope as we galvanize our shared resources," Mutua said.
Mutua said it is vital that there is clarity on the Ukambani community's linkage with national and international networks.
The three have vowed to stick together and grow each other's county's economy by buying goods and trading within Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos counties.
"In 10 to 20 years we don't want to be blamed as sycophants for doing nothing," Mutua said.
Ngilu said they are committed to working together and nothing will separate them since they have a clear development agenda for the region.
