Elders from Kalenjin and Luo communities are reportedly burning midnight oil to reunite Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The two political friends cum foes have lately fired shots against each other with their allies escalating deteriorating relationship between them.

With Raila recently taking a meal at Ruto's Karen home in the company of President Uhuru Kenyatta, political tensions have quelled, even as Ruto raided Mr Odinga's Nyanza backyard in the last week in what is seen as warm up towards 2022 race.

"Elders have been meeting secretly in Nairobi and Kisumu to see the possible working relationship between the two former friends.

"The two leaders are aware but the talks are in infant stages. Options are being fronted and once they are through, they will present the proposal to the two for decision making," an insider said.

Among the options being considered is having a joint ticket between the two or a compromise to win 2022 polls.

But the move could backfire according to political analyst Gideon Mamboleo since the constitution doesn't allow Ruto to deputise someone else in 2022 neither will Raila agree to play second fiddle.

"It's a good step but I don't think it will succeed. Ruto can now only run for president having served as deputy twice while Raila is unlikely to relegate himself to play second fiddle. Perhaps he fronts someone for Ruto," he says.

At a funeral ceremony in Kipkelion in February, Raila hinted that Ruto may not make it to State House should he not get his blessings.

The DP is reportedly concerned with Mt Kenya support and is said to have already given up following persistent utterances by the president which allegedly belittles him.
