Nyamira County Senator Erick Okong'o has been faulted over his remarks that men impregnating school girls should be castrated.
A section of Nyamira men have termed the Senator's remarks as disrespectful to the patriarchal society in the region.
"How can Okong'o who pleaded with us to vote for him during the last year's polls suggest that men found impregnating school girls be castrated? What if the girls lure men into sex and in return they be pregnant? Okong'o should respect men and we want him to apologize," said Amos Manoti, a resident in Bosamaro ward said angrily.
Manoti said Okong'o will find it hard to retain his seat in 2022 if he does not tender an apology.
Another resident, Timothy Obaga who hails from Nyamira township ward said Okong'o wants men to be tortured for nothing.
"Yes, impregnating school girls is bad but, castrating suspects will not be a good deal. Okong'o could have suggested a different punishment for men found impregnating school girls. Let him come out clear and make apologies to Nyamira men," said Obaga.
John Ombasa, a widower accused Okong'o of being at the forefront to have men tortured in the community.
"So this is the kind of leaders we elect to represent us? Okong'o will have to find an alternative job in 2022 because we are not going to re-elect him as our Senator who wants men to be castrated. His remarks mean he is ready to impregnate women on behalf of the thousands of men in Nyamira because he said they are castrated," Ombasa opined.
This comes after Okong'o on Thursday while speaking in Gesiaga area Bosamaro ward in Nyamira County said men who will be caught to have impregnated school girls should be castrated.
