Beginning with the bombing of the US embassy in 1998, the attack at Westgate mall in 2011,  which was later followed by the Garissa University attack in 2015.

Most recently, on 15 January 2019, another terror attack occurred in Dusit hotel, 14 Riverside Drive leaving thousands of Kenyans with fear and anxiety.

Moreover, those who were directly affected have developed a post-traumatic stress disorder.

Here are three ways that can effectively counter fear and anxiety in an age of terror attacks:

1. Limit your access to sources of fake news, particularly illegible social media:  Staying informed with up to date news and every activity that is happening in the country can be very helpful, but on the negative side, it may raise the level of fear and anxiety when you receive fake terrifying news especially about terror.

Be advised to get news from legit media.

2. Continuing your normal routine and way of living: when terror attacks occur, anxiety and fear triggers people to avoid crowded public places such as bus stations, hotels/restaurants and other public institutions.

It is okay to take the risk, but remember life has to continue. Living your normal life plays a major role in reducing anxiety and fear.

3. Coming up with the most appropriate ways to help those with PTSD; especially by referring them to social workers, psychiatrists or psychologists for reassurance and psychological therapy.

This will help to manage overwhelming emotions that affect them after the terror attack.
