A family in Baringo County is mourning the demise of a man who chauffeured President Uhuru Kenyatta and his siblings.
The man, Clement Kiptoo Kurui, died on Tuesday at the age of 83 after his dream to meet the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces ended up shattered.
The deceased, who was popularly known as Mzee Arap King, hailed from Kituro in Baringo Central. He met his death at Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet after suffering from a short illness. The deceased reportedly used to chauffeur Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in the early 1960’s and the entire family. He used to drive the current Head of State to and fro school before he quit the job.Uhuru together with his brothers Muhoho and Nyokabi were attending their nursery school education. The family of the deceased has embarked on plans to give him a befitting sendoff.
The family spokesman Julius Kuruito told the Daily Nation in an exclusive interview that they saddened by the fact that his death came before he fulfilled his dream of meeting Uhuru.
The family also appealed to President Uhuru to intervene into the burial to give the man a befitting sendoff.
They said that the role he played in State House during his time will forever remain in their hearts even as they lay him to rest.
“It is sad that our brother has died without fulfilling his dream of meeting the President, whom he chauffeured when he was a little boy."
