President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to travel to Russia to attend the first-ever Russia-Africa summit in Sochi.
The President will be accompanied by the Africa Union (AU) High Representative for Infrastructure Development, Raila Odinga.
It remains unclear whether the two will travel separately or together. The Head of State is expected to be welcomed by the host President Vladimir Putin during the tour. Putin will co-chair the summit with AU Chairman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Others who will be travelling to Russia are Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Richard Ngatia and businessman Vimal Shah.
The meeting comes at a time when Putin has turned his eyes on Africa as he seeks to transform the economy of his country. He has expressed optimism ahead of the meeting.
“I hope that new areas and forms of co-operation will be outlined during the forum, and promising joint initiatives will be put forward that will help take Russian-African collaboration to a whole new level and develop our economies and the prosperity of our peoples," President Putin said, as quoted by Standard.
More than 3000 representatives from the African continent are expected at the meeting.
