Apart from knowing that he is the current governor of Vihiga County, did you know that Wilberforce Ottichilo is a space scientist?
Probably not many Kenyans know that aspect of the county boss' life.
The governor, who is known for his laid back personality, revealed on Wednesday morning on Media Max-owned K24 Television station 'Upclose and Personal' program why he decided to pursue the prestigious course.
Governor Ottichilo said that he somehow developed an interest in knowing more about space as a child in the village.
He was, at that early age, consumed by the desire to know what lay beyond the skies; the stars, galaxies formations and all.
"As a young child in the village, I was so much intrigued with nature, how things evolved, how did these things come but most interestingly what intrigued me more is when I looked in the sky, I saw all these stars, all these galaxies formations and I kept on wondering how did this come about," the Vihiga governor said.
It is when he went to the United States of America that his passion for the discipline was rekindled.
Ottichilo didn't think twice, he dived into it, head first.
He pursued a diploma in report sensing in the United States which he says is part of the diverse science of space at the Colorado State University.
His PhD thesis was about remote sensing which he also pursued at the Colorado State University
In general space science encompasses all disciplines that entail space exploration and the study of formations and natural phenomena occurring in outer space.
