A middle-aged man from Kyeleni in Matungulu sub-county, Machakos is recuperating at Kangundo Level Four Hospital after a hyena attack.
The man who was not immediately identified lost his leg and sustained serious injuries after encountering the beast on his way home from the market on Tuesday.
The incident was confirmed a Kenya KWS warden from Ol-Donyo Sabuk National Park, Polycarp Okuku.
Okuku said that the man was rescued by passers-by who heard his cries.
"The man was attacked as he headed home from the market on Monday night, his screams attracted passers-by who helped him and rushed him to the hospital," said Okuku on phone.
He said that the hyena escaped from Ol-Donyo Sabuk National Park. He, however, confirmed that the man was attended to and is in a stable condition.
He also urged locals to report any wild animal that has strayed as soon as possible so that KWS can act.
"I would like to urge members of the public to report to us in case they spot any wild animal that has strayed. This is so that KWS can take the necessary action to avert incidences like this," he noted.
