Renowned economist and social and political commentator David Ndii has claimed that veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga is being misled and misleading the country.
In a tweet on Wednesday after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader weighed in on the tea impasse at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.
The economist and a former member of the National Super Alliance (NASA) secretariat called on the former prime minister to stop meddling in the tea issue.
"Raila Odinga you are misled and you are misleading the public. KTDA tea is a self-governing farmers' collective, not government business. The government should focus on its rotten sugar industry. Get your facts right also, tea fetches $2.50/kg not Sh.60 and KTDA farmers get 70%. Stop meddling, " David Ndii wrote.
This came after Raila Odinga's discussions with key stakeholders in the tea industry.
Mr Odinga said that the country was staring at a crisis over the tea issue while mourning media reports that tea farmers were uprooting the crop.
"We are staring at a crisis that we have to confront. In a recent couple of months, we have been treated to dramatic scenes and media reports of tea farmers uprooting their crops or promising to do so because the crop no longer pays," Odinga wrote.
