Retired President Daniel Moi is the most likely force behind the apparent emerging political realignment, especially the growing romance between opposition leader Raila Odinga and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Speaking during a tour in Homa Bay county on Saturday, Gideon who doubles up as the older son of Moi hinted at cooperating with Odinga henceforth.

Coming amid rising political temperatures with regards to the coming 2022 presidential race, the latter was definitely referring to a collaboration in the contest.

“After the handshake, Raila and I are one thing. The friendship between my father and him will continue. We will work together to lay a roadmap to get to Canaan,” he was quoted by the Nation.

It is notable that both persons have a common political enemy in the name of Deputy President William Ruto, a man who also seems to have lost the initial trust he had inflicted in the heart of Moi.

And consequently, he was several months back, in May, denied a chance to meet Moi at his Kabarak Home in Nakuru.

This came barely a month after Raila, a sworn enemy of Moi, achieved a meeting with the ageing leader.

And obviously, keen on ensuring that his son succeeds him, Moi seems to have found a better friend in Raila than Ruto and is most likely the one advising Gideon's political moves.

To top it off, he has been meeting Raila's allies over time, the first one being Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in August.

In October he once again met trade unionist Francis Atwoli, another Raila sympathiser, but is yet to meet any person from Ruto's camp.

This, if looked at keenly, gives an impression of a man with a set mind, and who is pulling his political strings with the aim of achieving a specific goal.

The goal, in his case, is an attempt to endorse a Raila-Moi ticket in 2022, a plan that might bring on board other top leaders with time for better results.
