Mohammed Juma Njuguna's demise has left a huge gap that may take centuries to be filled, perhaps not anywhere in the near future.
The veteran football commentator died on Saturday at Nairobi Hospital, years after being diagnosed with chronic diabetes which almost put him off air.
And several print and broadcast journalists have described him as a rare talent that ever produced in the media industry.
"I don't know what I can say. It's a big blow to the media. He mentored most of us. He never discriminated and more importantly, he cared for us," said Evans Nyakundi, People Daily Nyamira reporter.
For Egesa FM veteran presenter Nyakundi Bogonko, Njuguna's memories will be remembered in many years to come given his kindness.
"I am lucky to have worked with him both in KBC and Citizen. We have lost a key pillar in media industry. It will take long to fill that void," he said in a phone call on Saturday.
For Standard Group journalist Geoffrey Mosoku, he has lost a mentor and a close friend. He said journalists have a lot to learn from Njuguna.
"A cool Mzee who corrected us when we went wrong. It's a dark Saturday and for sure, I have personally lost a mentor," he said.
