Former Harambee Stars coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has urged Kenyan football teams to believe in local coaches and give them the chance of coaching their teams.
“Kenya has got a lot of football coaches who are qualified and meet the international standards, I don’t see why most of our big clubs ignore local coaches and rush to appoint foreigners whose football background is not even clear to everyone,” said Mulee, who was talking live on the Radio Jambo morning show early Monday.
Mulee was making those sentiments amid the sacking of AFC Leopards coach Marko Vesiljevic after Sunday's 4-1loss to Bandari FC in Mombasa.
The 25-year-old Serbian coach was only two months old at the club and had only managed two league wins in 10 fixtures, losing 4 and drawing a similar number.
“Why should our clubs keep on hiring and firing foreign coaches yet we have a lot of capable Kenyan coaches, besides, at only 25, I think Vesiljevic lacked the experience needed to coach a big club like AFC Leopards; so before rushing to appoint foreign coaches, our clubs should do an extensive homework to get their football achievements and qualifications,” added Mulee, who won the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations with Harambee stars in 2004 in Tunisia.
Leopards lost to Bandari 4-1at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa on Sunday afternoon, just a week after they were humiliated 4-0 at the hands of Kakamega Homeboys.
