His nomination to run for the vacant Migori Senatorial seat means the world to former Cabinet Secretary Ochilo Ayacko.
Ayacko was recently handed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket on a silver platter, after it declared itself not fit to conduct the primaries.
Being the dominant party in the entire Luo Nyanza region, Ayacko is almost assured of the seat, after which he will be in a better position to realize his initial gubernatorial ambition.
The ex-Rongo lawmaker vied for the top post in the previous elections, losing to his rival Okoth Obado.
But as the Senator and Obado being on his second and last constitutional gubernatorial term, no one seems more fit to fill the pending gap.
As Senator, what remains for Ayacko is to prove his ability to serve his people, to facilitate a smooth ascent to the higher seat in the approaching 2022 general elections.
This is contrary to when he was out, as locals would have simply gone for another option, sidelining him on grounds that they haven’t gotten the chance to assess his performance.
He is also set to benefit from the ongoing row between Obado and the party, after Obado opposed his nomination, terming it undemocratic and dictatorial.
The expected exchange, attacks and counter-attacks will obviously derail the Governor's operations, which will be beneficial to Ayacko when Obado proves his dislike for him and endorses another candidate to succeed him.
Basing on Obado’s poor job, he will easily incite the voters against his choice, noting that the proposed candidate is most likely to give a continuation of the Governor’s poor performance.
