A man from Isiolo County has been arrested by detectives in connection with the mysterious death of human rights activist Caroline Mwatha.

Alexander Gitau Gikonya, who works in Isiolo is believed to be responsible for Caroline’s five-month pregnancy.

Alexander is among six other suspects who have been arrested following investigations by detectives.

Caroline who is an activist from Dandora has been missing since last week and her body was found at the City Mortuary on Tuesday.

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti who confirmed the arrest of the suspects said Alexander was in constant communication with Caroline before the alleged abortion.

In a statement, Mr Kinoti said investigations established that Alexander sent money to Caroline to procure abortion from a clinic within Dandora.

Caroline is married to Joshua Ochieng, who works in Dubai.

“DCI officers launched investigations and it was established that Caroline was in constant communication with one Alexander Gitau Gikonyo who is known to be working in Isiolo County.”

“Further exploitation revealed communications relating to an intended abortion of a five-month old pregnancy between Caroline and Alexander. It was further established that an unidentified doctor had demanded a fee of Sh7,000 and after negotiations the cost was reduced to Sh6,000 which was sent to the lady by Alexander,” said Mr Kinoti in the statement.

Other suspects arrested include clinic owner Betty Akinyi Nyanya alias Betty Ramoya, Richard Ramoya Abudo who is Betty’s son, Georgia Achieng Tabitha, Michael Onchiri alias Dr Mike and Stephen Maina who is an Uber driver.
