Despite backlash from a section of social media users, Raila Odinga's impending trip to China with President Uhuru Kenyatta has received a major backing from members of Abagusii community living in US.
At Kisumu on Saturday, Mr Odinga revealed his intentions to travel with Uhuru to Beijing where they are expected to secure Sh368 billion for funding of SGR project from Naivasha to Kisumu.
Led by former NASA campaigner in the diaspora Samuel Okemwa, the activists maintained that the trip was timely. They however, asked the two leaders to ensure people in managing the funds.
"Raila is offering support and advice to Uhuru to deliver where Ruto misled him.Raila accompanying Uhuru to China to borrow is not wrong , the problem is when borrowed money ends up in some people's pocket. SGR, Eurobond , Kimwerer and Arror billions are in Ruto's pocket," he argued.
They poked hole at DP Ruto's leadership, accusing him of failing to account for the money he gives in churches. Further, the team blamed Dr William Ruto for stagnated development, arguing that his 2022 mentality would further dwindle the fortunes of the country's economy.
"That is why he is able to fundraise millions every week. The only thing that is disorienting Uhuru's development agenda is Ruto's early campaigns. Ruto is making sure no development takes place so that he can blame Uhuru and Raila in 2022.There is no shortcut to power."
Once secured, the loan will help in construction of Phase 3 of Standard Gauge Railway which starts from Naivasha to Kisumu. And the SGR will pass through Nyamira County at Ikonge before proceeding to Chabera and Sondu.
During his state of nation address recently, Uhuru revealed plans to expand Kisii-Kiricho road usually called Ngoina Road. It will expand SGR activities since a station will be constructed at Ikonge. It will be the first railway line in Nyamira and entire Gusii region since independence.
