Witeithie is an estate based in the western outskirts of Thika Town and in the past few years, it has witnessed a drastic growth in both population and size since Thika Superhighway came into being.

Although administratively the estate falls under Juja Sub-county, its proximity to Thika has always made it seem like a part of the larger Thika municipality.

The estate's name loosely translated from Gikuyu language means 'help yourself'. It is not clear where and how it got that name but what is clear is that things were not so good and comfy here leading to its name.

However, things seem to have taken a positive turn after it emerged that a kilo of beef in the estate is retailing for a meagre Sh280 which did not escape the eye of one social media user who was quick to post the 'good news' on Facebook.

Some users have welcomed the 'good news' saying it was long overdue as meat should be sold as an essential source of protein which everyone should be able to afford irrespective of the depth of their pockets.

Others are, however, sceptical about the price saying that the source of the meat needs to be established so that residents do not end up feasting on game meat disguised as beef.

In many places around Kenya, a kilo of beef is currently retailing for at least Sh400.
