Deputy President William Ruto insists that he's focused in consolidating the legacy of his boss Uhuru Kenyatta, adding that Raila Odinga is free to take over on referendum drive.
Just a week after he backed the proposed constitutional changes albeit controversially, Ruto insisted that 'he's too busy to join referendum team'.
"The work of the deputy president is to help the president realise his projects. I am currently too busy in launching projects.
"There are some people who are forcing me to join the drive but am not available. We can't do same work all the time. Let them take charge of referendum," he said.
Mr. Odinga has previously insisted that referendum on certain issues will take place whether Ruto 'likes it or not'.
But in his statement on Saturday in Kiambu, the DP warned that the calls will backfire if it's about positions.
"It's difficult to stop referendum because it's in the constitution. However, those who think they can create more positions using the referendum should forget," he said.
