Here are some of the instances where the region made unbelievable moves.

1. Kibaki Tosha in 2002

The first instance was in 2002 when it overwhelmingly voted for a person who would have been otherwise considered an outsider.

Under the leadership of opposition chief Raila Odinga, Luos entirely backed former President Mwai Kibaki's bid, and played a big role in his victory.

This came amid a feud between the Luos and the Kikuyu's (Kibaki's community), originating from the bitter fallout between President Jomo Kenyatta and Oginga Odinga in 1966.

2. October 26 presidential rerun

The region was again at it on October 26, 2017, this time unbelievably cordoning all the four counties in the region from the repeat presidential elections.

This was after Odinga cried foul in the initial August 8 poll results, and called upon the entire nation to reject the rerun.

On the material day, youth ensured no election materials penetrated into the interior, and successfully prevented the election from taking place entirely.

This obviously entailed running battles with the police, injuries, arrests and disruption of operations and transport.

3. 1969 Kenyatta heckling in Kisumu

On October 25, 1969, chaos erupted in Kisumu after presidential guards attached to then President Jomo Kenyatta shot into the hostile crowd, killing and maiming.

This was after a crowd that had attended the official opening of the Nyanza General Hospital heckled and charged at the Head of State.

This was despite the heavy deployment of armed law enforcers as is the norm whenever the president is around.

The incident would later be dubbed the 'Kisumu Massacre'.
