The commander in chief of the armed forces said that the re-election of Buhari is a clear indicator that the citizens of Nigeria have confidence in his leadership.

He urged the elect-President to serve his people with diligence and determination after the opponents accused him of rigging.

“Congratulations H.E. @MBuhari on your re-election for a second term as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your victory is a clear demonstration of the trust and confidence the people of Nigeria have in your ability to lead the country to greater heights of progress,” he tweeted

Buhari, 76, won the race with a huge margin against his closest rival Atiku Abubakar. The former military ruler rose to power for the first time in 2015.

The supporters of the President had gathered in different parts of the Capital Abuja to celebrate the win before the election commission declared the outcome of the exercise.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu had travelled to Nigeria as one of the observers of the process before the electoral commission postponed the same.

Ngilu expressed concern over the postponing of the exercise hours after receiving the news.
