Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama is no doubt among veteran and the most experienced Kamba politicians.
Muthama is also among the wealthiest politicians in Ukambani and the country at large.
The vocal former Wiper senator is, however, known for political and social controversies.
Muthama in the recent years has been arrested and charged in court over alleged incitement.
The former senator has also been caught up in family and marriage controversy with ugly brawls with his estranged wife Agnes Kavindu.
In 2014, Kavindu came out alleging that she was still married to Muthama, despite the former senator claiming that they had divorced in 1983.
Kavindu claimed that the former senator was mistreating and assaulting her.
Her claims drew the attention of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), Machakos chapter and also FIDA.
On October 18, 2014, hundreds of women led by Machakos MYWO chairperson Francisca Mutinda stormed Muthama’s home castigating him for allegedly mistreating Kavindu.
Chanting anti-Muthama slogans, the women demanded that he respects Kavindu.
The angry women were, however, repulsed by anti-riot police after they gained entry into Muthama’s Tala home in Matungulu, Machakos County.
Muthama has since maintained that he divorced Kavindu and they don’t live together as she alleges.
In the August 8, 2017, general election, Kavindu unsuccessfully contested for the Machakos Woman Representative seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
