Asbel Kiprop is arguably among the most decorated Kenyan athletes. He is a middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 meters race.

Kiprop has of late been making headlines for the wrong reasons; first in May when it was revealed that he had tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing substance, EPO, and secondly, is a controversial video of him with what has been alleged to be his pacesetters wife.

The video is now the talk of Kenyans on all social media platforms.

Now here are a few facts you should know about Asbel Kiprop;

Born about 29 years ago at Kiptinga village, Kapseret constituency of Uasin Gishu County, Kiprop is an Olympic gold medalist and a three-time World Champion in the 1500 meters race.

He won 1500 m gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, a medal he was awarded after the original winner, Rashid Ramzi tested positive for doping, and World Championship titles in  2011, 2013 and 2015.

Kiprop's father, David Kebenei was also an athlete who participated in the 1987 All-Africa Games that were held in Kenya and finished fourth in the 1500 meters race.

The three-time World Champion began running at the age of 13 years while at Simat Primary school, Kapseret constituency. He would however later drop out of school to focus on building his running career.

He is currently awaiting the for a decision from the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) to determine his fate after it was revealed on May that his urine samples had tested positive for banned energy-enhancing drugs (EPO)
