Last year, businessman Hezron Otieno Mc'Obewa was the talk of the town in most parts of Kisumu county when he announced his bid for the hotly contested gubernatorial seat.
Mc’Obewa announced a bid to vie for the seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He therefore faced former governor Jack Ranguma and former Kisumu senator Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o in the ODM party Primaries.
Nyong’o carried the day and he is currently serving his first term as Kisumu governor.
Unlike most aspirants who lost during the ODM party primaries and joined other parties or vied as independent candidates in the August 8th, 2017 general elections, Mc'Obewa abandoned the course.
Perhaps he realized early enough that facing Nyong’o armed with an ODM party certificate in Kisumu was a waste of time, resources and manpower.
He quietly exited the Kisumu County political stage, back to where it all began – business and leadership outside politics.
Mc'Obewa is very active on social media, with most of his posts steering away from politics of the day.
Currently, he is serving as Regional Medical Advisor at the Bush Hospital Foundation, and chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Le'Savannah hotel.
It is not yet clear whether he will vie for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in 2022.
