Members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have demanded that the Building Building Bridges (BBI) taskforce proposes major political amendments in its report.
Despite initial thoughts that the report would introduce among others, a powerful Prime Minister position, the same did not come out in the report released last month.
On Tuesday, ODM members demanded that the party leader Raila Odinga, a main figure in the push for changes, ensures that the report suggests the seat and it's two deputies.
During an ODM joint Parliamentary Group and National Executive Council meeting at a hotel in Lavington, they said that its only that way that inclusivity can be achieved.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament stressed on the need for a Premier and two deputies, adding that of the positions, one should be reserved for the youth.
“There should be an Executive Prime Minister and also the PM should have two deputies, with one below the age of 45," said Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.
However, in a communication to the public, the party said that it will be handing in its presentation to the taskforce units second cross-country public participation rounds.
“It has been resolved that we engage in an honest and sober debate on the many recommendations and that the party shall submit a detailed position on all areas to the BBI team of experts when the time comes,” said party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
ODM members had also hinted that the country could see a proposal to change the governance system, which also did not feature in the report by the Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji-led team.
Instead, the taskforce proposed the creation of a powerless prime minister, an equivalent of the National Assembly Majority Leader, to be picked by the president.
