Residents in Gilgil, Nakuru County were shocked to discover the body of a woman dumped in a thicket.
Gilgil Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Joseph Thuvi who confirmed the incident said they have launched investigations into the incident.
Thuvi said they have visited the crime scene in search of clues after the area residents found the body on Friday evening.
He said the officers are still trying to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the mother of one.
The police are still waiting for a postmortem to be done after the body was taken to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
“We are at the initial stages of the investigation and still piecing together the intelligence report,” said Thuvi
The middle-aged woman was reported missing from her family’s home in Gitare village for seven days before her body was discovered by local residents.
A local, George Kihanya, said the incident has shocked the area residents.
Kihanya said they suspect the attackers were holding the woman hostage adding that it appeared that the woman was raped before she was killed and later dumped in the area.
“The family has been searching for her since she went missing but their search mission was unsuccessful,” he said.
