The county women representative Beatrice Adagala has expressed strong condemnation for the actions of the officers and vowed to escalate the matter to the Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.

She said that it was unacceptable that officers who are supposed to ensure that locals are secure are the ones who are the source of the insecurity.

"Officers armed with guns and machetes, did they come to steal the coffin? No wonder they stole the contributions that were made for the widow. We strongly condemn that. (Askari amebeba bunduki, askari amebeba panga walikuwa wanakuja kuiba sanduku? Ndio no wonder wameiba sadaka imetoka hapa mjane atumie wameenda nayo. Hiyo ni laana na sisi kama watu tnalaani hiyo mchana)," the woman rep said.

"Every MP in this county, we will go to Matiang'is office to tell him about the rogue officers (Kila mbunge wa hii county tunaenda asubuhi, tutaenda kwa ofisi ya Matiang'i na tumwambie hawa askari wamekuwa kero), " she added.

Kilingili area, where the theft of the burial funds occurred, is no stranger to insecurity.

Last year scores of people were killed by a marauding gang leading to local politicians calling for officers who had served in the area for a long time to be transferred, a demand that was heeded.
