President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the de facto leader of Mt Kenya region, for now, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has insisted.
For months, the region has witnessed hostile succession politics, which have seen MPs hugely divided over the area's future.
Deputy President William Ruto has been traversing the region, managing to lobby dozens of MPs behind his 2022 presidential bid.
In a response to TV host Tony Gachoka on Saturday, Mr Ngunjiri insisted that Uhuru remains the kingpin of central Kenya, adding that Ruto cannot displace him.
"@ngunjiriwambugu plan by Hustler is simple. Raid Mt. Kenya convert much of it to suit him, so if Uhuru goes against him for Baba he will send a war cry, example Kirinyaga Jana; BBI is an excuse to start the war, plan B anti-Kikuyu smears have begun so as to unite others against 1," Gachoka wrote on Twitter.
"He will not succeed. We're alert. Mt Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta's bedroom. (Hawezmek. Tuko Chonjo. Mt Kenya ni bedroom ya #UhuruKenyatta," Ngunjiri Wambugu replied to the tweet, in reference to Uhuru's dominance in the region's politics.
On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta who had initially backed DP William Ruto's bid, changed tune insisting that 'only God knows 5th president of Kenya'.
Mt Kenya MPs loyal to Mr Ruto met on Saturday in Embu where they are expected to come up with a common stand on Building Bridges Initiative report.
Previously, Uhuru has accused MPs loyal to Ruto of antagonising him, warning that he's ready to have them crushed should they fail to tore to the line.
