Former Harambee Stars striker Allan Watende Wanga has literally been a journey man in his glittering club football career.

Now at Kakamega Homeboyz, Wanga has played for Tusker FC in two different stints (2007 and 2016), and AFC Leopards here in Kenya, Petro Atletico in Angola, FK Baku in Azerbaijan, Al Merreikh in Sudan, and Azam in Tanzania in a journey spanning more than ten years.

Playing as a striker for all those top teams means he has faced some of the fiercest and meanest defenders the game has had to offer.

In an interview in Kisumu on Saturday, Wanga revealed two of the most competitive defenders he has ever come across, more so locally.

“I have played against so many defenders. Locally there is Mulinge Ndeto who used to play for Ulinzi Stars and then Edger ‘Fighter’ Ochieng who played for Mathare United. I think those are the defenders who were very tough on my side,” said the Kakamega Homeboyz striker.

Ndeto and Ochieng have since hanged up their boots from active football.

Wanga was born in Kisumu, before becoming one of the best strikers the country has seen in recent years.

Having dutifully served Harambee Stars for over ten years, Wanga retired from international football mid this year, after he was left out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad, held in Egypt.
