Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who has claimed that the Jubilee Party is nonexistent following the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.
"It is now clear that there is no longer a political party known as Jubilee. Respect Baba," Kuria tweeted on Tuesday evening.
According to the MP who has declared that he will be running for the presidency in 2022, Democratic Party (DP) that was founded by former President Mwai Kibaki 29 years ago, will be the party of choice for Mt Kenya in the upcoming polls.
While Kuria's statement might easily be dismissed as idle talk and swept under the carpet, it is good to remember that there is no smoke without fire.
Even Deputy President William Ruto has accused Raila of plotting to destroy the Jubilee Party.
“I want to tell him that he will not succeed. There is a shortage of fools in this country. People are very smart and know his evil schemes,” said Ruto during the launch of the Judiciary annual report on Thursday, last week.
With such claims being made every now and then, it doesn't require a nuclear scientist to tell you that Jubilee Party is either dead as Kuria claims, or there are attempts to kill it as Ruto says.
Assuming that Ruto and Kuria are right, how has Raila been able to achieve this? Well, he came, he saw, he conquered.
Raila being a longtime experienced politician knows well that if you cannot beat them just join them and fight from inside.
So, through the March 9, 2018 handshake Raila may have come in and launched his offensive to destroy Jubilee.
Once inside, he was quick to note that Jubilee Party was not as cohesive as its owners claimed while in public. For instance, he could see there is what is called Uhuru's faction and Ruto's faction in Jubilee. Why not use it on every available opportunity to put a wedge between the two rival factions.
No wonder you keep on hearing that the anti-graft war is skewed and seems to target Ruto or those allied to him with Raila constantly being mentioned to be behind it.
True or otherwise, the writings are all over the wall. Jubilee Party is headed for the biggest split ever unless something is done very quickly. It has been conquered by the prevailing circumstances or as Kuria puts it, Baba himself!
