In a closed-door meeting held on Saturday, Duale sought to get to the deepest crisis of the year so far in the county, even as tension piles up in the volatile county riddled with inter-clan clashes.

Speaking during the event, Duale urged members drawn from the rival clans that the matter should be handled with caution to avoid sparking off retaliatory attacks from affected parties.

"The issue at hand is very tricky. It calls for sobriety and caution from all quarters," said the legislator who has for some time remained silent over the issue.

However, the legislator did not comment as to whether the court cases involving the governor would proceed or they would refer them back to the powerful council of elders.

Garissa county is popularly known for the role that local council of elders plays, especially on matters of security and politics.

In the past, the elders have been on record spearheading peace deals or rival politicians with intention of ensuring a continued peace within the volatile region.
