Wiper party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday handed Julius Mawathe a direct ticket to contest for Embakasi South parliamentary by-election which will be held on April 5.
The seat fell vacant last year on December 21, when the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mawathe citing that he was not lawfully elected.
Speaking during the event, the former vice president pleaded with voters to turn out in large numbers and vote in Mawathe.
He also noted that this race will be a tight contest as they will go head to head with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, Mohamed Sumra.
The two parties, in the same coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA), fielded different candidates even after ODM had requested Wiper party not to field a candidate for the good spirit of the coalition.
Kalonzo also argued employers to give their employees a time off during the voting day to allow them vote for Mawathe.
More leaders have on recent weeks supported the endorsement of Mr. Mawathe for this seat.
Some of the notable members of parliament who endorsed Mr. Mawathe include Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Starehe MP Charles Njagua, Embakasi West MP George Theuri and the East African Legislative Assembly MP Simon Mbugua.
Jubilee party will not be fielding a candidate for this race, and thus these Jubilee leaders opted to support Mr. Mawathe.
