Police in Kitui are investigating rape allegations against a Member of County Assembly (MCA).
According to police, an MCA allegedly raped a college student in Kitui town last week.
Kitui Central OCPD Muthuri Mwongera says the student reported the incident on Thursday.
According to a police report, the MCA whose identity is yet to be revealed found the student at Best Lady Beauty Parlour in Kitui town and gave her a ride in his car.
The county lawmaker then drove the car to an isolated place in Manenyoni area in Kitui where he allegedly raped her.
According to the student’s statement, the MCA locked the car using an automatic system preventing her from escaping and raising alarm.
The student alleges that the MCA gave her Sh1,000 to remain silent.
She further claims that she rejected the money and reported the matter at Kitui police station.
“We have referred the student to Kitui Hospital to be examined and once we have a medical report we will swing into full action,” Mwongera said.
He addressed the press in his office on Monday.
Detectives probing the matter have concealed the MCA's identity as investigations continue.
