An elected Member of Parliament has broken his silence over the inaugural Gusii 7s tournament which was held on Saturday at Gusii stadium.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro said the event was organised with the aim of celebrating the Easter holiday with locals.
Speaking on Sunday at Etago Shopping Centre in the constituency, Osoro further denied claims that public funds were misappropriated during the tournament.
“I want to confirm that no public funds were used to sponsor the event. Those demanding that I and other organisers be investigated are political idlers who have nothing to do,” he noted.
The youthful lawmaker reiterated that elected leaders should play a role in nurturing the talents of youth.
Mr Osoro stated that youths from Kisii and Nyamira counties have talents which must be nurtured.
“Our youths should be helped to earn a living from their talents. It is shameful for some confused individuals to claim that public funds have been embezzled for organising such a good event,” he added.
Osoro is perceived to be a close ally to DP Ruto. He is serving his first term in Parliament after having successfully won the seat on a Kenya National Congress (KNC) Party ticket during the 2017 polls.
