Boda boda riders plying Kegati-Keumbu route in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County have appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to intervene and stop police officers from harassing them.
The riders protested that police officers have taken advantage of the implementation of the famous road rules 'Michuki rules' to harass them on the road.
"We have never known peace since the 'Michuki rules' were introduced. Police officers have been apprehending us without valid reasons and soliciting for bribes. We are urging Matiang'i to rescue us from the rogue security officers," said one of the rider Vincent Nyaringo.
Jared Ombasa claimed that police officers have imposed some amount of money riders should pay to officers especially those manning roadblocks.
"Riders have been forced to change route since police officers at roadblocks are demanding bribes ranging from Sh100 to Sh400. We need to be respected since we depend on the boda boda business to feed our families," Ombasa said.
Rodgers Masese claimed that despite the numerous complains to the area police boss Joshua Muthoka, the officers have not stopped soliciting bribes.
Mr. Muthoka was not available to comment on the matter by the time of going to the press.
