Political analyst Dennis Anyonka has opined that the ongoing corruption debate might deny Deputy President (DP) William Ruto the presidency in the 2022 polls.
Speaking on Monday, Anyonka noted that the DP has failed to realise that Kenyans are fully behind the war on corruption, and his apparent opposition to the same might cost him gravely.
He further noted that thanks to Ruto's apparent fight against the purge and those leading it, he risks being punished by Kenyans come 2022.
"Iwapo anataka kuwa rais, asiwe mmoja kati ya wale wanaopiga vita dhidi ya ufisadi. Hii inamfanya aonekane hayuko pamoja na wananchi katika vita hivi," he said during an interview on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Monday morning.
(By fighting the purge at a time when Kenyans are fully behind him, he is coming out as an enemy of the people which will lower his winning chances).
He added that with his political interests in mind, the DP should move along and even take over the leadership of the campaign to appeal to Kenyans, and win their hearts ahead of time.
He stressed on the need for the DP to look into his advisory team, adding that they have been misleading him, especially with regards to his reactions to corruption scandals.
"Huenda anadanganywa na wale wanaompa mawaidha, haswa katika jinsi anavyojibu maswala ya ufisadi. Asiwe na wasiwasi sana maana huenda akaonekana kama mwizi," he said.
(He needs to examine his advisory team. The current one seems to be misleading him on how to conduct himself regarding the corruption issue. Consequently, he appears afraid, making him look guilty).
