Barely a year after being part of the bench that listened and determined two presidential petitions in Kenya, Supreme Court Judge Isaac Lenaola will now face a similar experience in Zimbabwe.

Mr. Lenaola, who was appointed to the apex court in 2016, will be in the delegation of African Judges and Jurists Forum that will travel to Harare as observers.

The petition was filed by Nelson Chamisa of MDC, who has since disputed August polls that saw Emerson Mnangagwa declared the winner.

Mr. Chamisa, 40, maintained that he won the poll despite electoral commission saying he scored 43.6 per cent to Mnangagwa's 50.8 per cent.

Also in the delegation are retired Zambian Chief Justice Ernest and renowned Ugandan lawyer Okumu Masiga.

During the mission, the three are expected to attend all the proceedings after which they will make independent recommendations over the petition.

They will also ensure both regional and international laws are applied in the judgement.

Mr. Lenaola was part of the historical bench that nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory, the first in Africa during 2017 polls.

He is the Deputy Principal Judge of the East African Court of Justice, a position he has held since 2011.

Justice Lenaola was appointed as a Judge of the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone in November 2013.
