Kenyan international Victor Wanyama's first-half goal helped earn a third straight win at the new Tottenham Hostpurs stadium— and a third consecutive clean sheet as they moved to fourth in the Premier League with a 4-0 win over Huddersfield.
On his first rare start in their North London home, Wanyama scored his first Tottenham goal since February 2018 against Liverpool.
Fans enjoyed Wanyama's slick piece of skill to put Spurs ahead in the 23rd minute as he rounded the Huddersfield goalkeeper Ben Hamer to slot the ball into an empty net.
In scoring the goal, Wanyama became the third player to score at the new stadium after Heung-Min Son and Christian Ericksen and the first African player.
While speaking to Tottenham's media, the Harambee Stars captain explained how he felt when he scored.
“I was just following the play, I could see there was space and I could break through. The opportunities are there and I’m always happy to try and do something. I had a good touch and I was very happy to score the first goal,” said Wanyama.
The defensive-midfielder was at his buzzing best.
After a long spell of injury, Wanyama was on the bench for the win over Manchester City in the Champions League and that break looks to have done him a world of good.
His return comes timely as Kenya prepare to face off at the 2019 AFCON in June.
