On social media forums, bloggers dismissed the man as Ruto's bodyguard thus dismissing the rare occasion as 'cheap publicity'.

But an expose by K24 TV after all reveals that the man in question was a genuine businessman who sold maize to the DP.

"I never though he would come here. I was roasting maize and all over sudden, his vehicle came by even though we'd left his plane the other side," said Joseph Mutua.

He added: "He did not even come with bodyguard at first. He came and greeted us and ordered for maize. When the bodyguard came, the DP himself dismissed him and asked him to take maize."

And on the suspicious communication gadget identified to VIP security, Mutua added, it was his ordinary phone and nail in his pocket.

The DP is however not a stranger in making stopovers in places considered to be for the less fortunate and has even been pictured taking tea in makeshift hotels.
