In a meeting with aspirants in the county on Saturday, he said IEBC has undergone changes to better its operations and will, therefore, carry out a good exercise.

He also presented the team set to oversee the election, led by Ruth Kulundu who was the Siaya County Election Manager in the 2017 general elections.

“We have brought in a new team led by Ruth Kulundu who was the Siaya County election manager in the August 2017 general election and other electoral officials in order to ensure that there is not an element of doubt over their impartiality in the by-election,” he said.

He further expressed the commissions determination to see the voters engage in a free and undisputed election process, calling for discipline among the candidates as well.

Chebukati urged the six hopefuls to adhere to the body’s rules and election laws to avoid any disqualifications or conflicts with the poll agency.

The six are Ochilo Ayacko of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate Eddy Oketch and Samuel Otieno who is vying on an independent ticket.

Others are Ogolla Ogolla (Independent), Solomon Hodo (People’s Democratic Party) and Peter Jobando of the Green Congress Party (GCP).

The election is set for October 8.

It fell vacant after the death of ex-senator Ben Oluoch Okello.
