President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to fire Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Achesa is not good news to Deputy President William Ruto.
Achesa has been a close ally of the second in command before curtains fell on him.
He had continued to root for Ruto’s presidency, a move that could have contributed to his firing in one way or another.
President Kenyatta had warned his cabinet against engaging in 2022 succession politics but the CS took it lightly before he was hit with a shocker.
Ruto is likely to lose some votes from the Western region following the firing of Achesa.
The DP has insisted that he will be on the ballot box in 2022 but it seems all not well in his team.
Ruto has been hitting headlines since Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga agreed to work with President Kenyatta. His allies feel the move is likely to complicate matters for Ruto.
He is hopeful that Uhuru endorses him for the seat but Raila’s change of tune has made things more complicated.
Ruto must go back to the ground to convince supporters of Achesa to elect him in 2022 failure to which he could be in for a rude shock.
