Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has said ODM leader Raila Odinga's push for a referendum is to force for the re-introduction of the executive Prime Minister post.
This is after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task-force only proposed the introduction of a powerless Prime Minister, who will be picked by the President from Parliament.
Wamwere argues that the former Prime Minister is not happy with the suggestion, as he would like the formation of a powerful Premier, a position he hopes to fill.
According to Wamwere, this has been informed by Odinga's realisation that he stands no presidential chances, owing to eroded political influence.
"Raila has shown prime ministerial ambitions. He wants the position because he knows it will be hard for him to make it to the presidency. (Raila ameonyesha tamaa kubwa ya kupata mamlaka ya uwaziri mkuu. Anataka waziri mkuu maana anajua kupata urais itakuwa vigumu)," he said on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi on Saturday evening.
He added that Raila's push for a referendum is with hopes that Kenyans will help him push for changes which will bring about a parliamentary system, after the report excluded it..
"Raila doesn't want the report to be taken to the Parliament as he knows that he will be beaten, that's why he wants it to be taken to the people (Raila anakataa isipelekwe bunge maana anajua atashindwa. Ndio maana anataka ipelekewe wananchi)," he added.
