After several complaints of default payments, Kenya Power had decided to do away with post-paid meters and shift to the pre-paid meters, Nation reports.
However, this plan seems to be abandoned as the listed utility firm has currently invited bids who will supply about 200,000 post-paid meters.
The suppliers or manufacturers interested in supplying the company with the post-paid meters are supposed to apply before January 17.
"The Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc invites bids from eligible tenderers for supply of (199,157) single phase post-paid meters,” said Kenya Power in a tender notice by Joyce Ochieng, its supply chain general manager, according to Nation.
The company has recently been faced with many scandals which has seen it lose trust among its customers.
Kenya Power staff were allegedly involved in the inflation of power bills and selling cheap tokens by colluding with the criminals.
However, the DCI had warned the cartels involved claiming they had discovered their trick and they were tracking them.
Detectives from the DCI further warned Kenyans against buying tokens from the cartels since they will be jailed because of propelling criminal activities.
“Kenyans should avoid buying tokens from unknown people or from fraudulent sources,” DCI warned.
