A local technician who once reported a 'racist' foreign manager is on the verge of losing his job.
Kennedy Maina, a Strabag International local contractor working on the construction of the Sh20 billion Thiba dam project has claimed that the company has refused to renew his contract.
Maina reported Austrian Hinteregger Yugen to the police after he allegedly tried to kill him at work.
The incidence which happened in June 2019, highlighted how Yugen badly treats people working under him.
“Our manager Yugen is a violent person canning even aged workers. Today he threatened to beat me and after I tried pleading with him to forgive me, he got mad, threw a metallic door at me. I had to shout for help,” said Maina as quoted by Citizen Digital.
This was not the only incidence that indicated harassment to local workers from their manager.
According to the dam contractors, through their union head David Ndanya, Yugen has always been physically abusing them and calling them names, such as 'bushmen and idiots'.
The incidence caught the attention of Gichugu MP Gichimu Githinji who intervened assured the local contractors of their safety.
Githinji even recalled 10 workers who had been fired by Yugen.
Maina has now asked the MP to help him as he is almost losing his job.
“Please Gichugu MP, I want my contract renewed and I’m being victimised,” he said Maina as quoted by Citizen Digital.
However, the Strabag Commercial Manager Sven Krueger said Maina's contract expired and they can choose whether to renew it or not.
