Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is fighting to exonerate himself from charges leveled against him in a Sh68 million graft case.
The former Mumias Sugar managing director has asked the court to drop the charges leveled against him, citing lack of evidence following allegations that he made irregular payment of the said amount to a law firm.
Kidero has insisted that he is innocent while at the same time accusing the prosecution of being biased in the handling of the case.
He also claimed that the prosecution wants to take advantage of State machinery to deny him a fair ruling in the court case that has dragged on for years.
“The petitioner has never been summoned or invited to answer to any queries in relations to the allegations leveled against him or to present any exculpatory evidence as stipulated under the ACECA rules (2013),” read part of his argument, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Kidero has now filed an application at the Milimani Law Courts seeking to be cleared of the charges.
He also argued that the complaints that the prosecution has instigated against him are not in line with the interest of the general public in any way.
The former county boss further accused the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji of applying double standards in graft cases.
