A class four pupil in Migori County has committed suicide over firewood.
The 13-year-old boy from Ngege Primary School in Suna East Sub-County is said to have hanged himself after his sisters used a pile of firewood he had intended to sell.
According to Jane Akinyi, a relative, the boy had collected the pile of firewood and went to seek a buyer only to return home to find his sisters using the firewood.
"When he found out, he started quarrelling with them asking for money in return but the sisters declined to give him the money. He then chased them away and hurled stones at them before he took a rope and headed towards his late grandmother's homestead," said Akinyi.
He was later found dangling from a tree at his grandmother's compound by his friends who gone to play football with him.
Confirming the Saturday incident, area assistant chief Seline Anyango urged parents to counsel their children to avert the rising cases of teen suicides in the area.
"I'm appealing to parents to provide counselling to their children to avoid similar occurrences in future," she said.
The body was taken to Ombo Hospital morgue.
