Estranged ex-billionaire Cyrus Jirongo had his former errand boy William Ruto to thank after being rescued from a possible remand in cell on Thursday.
A court in Nairobi had given the former Lugari MP slightly less than 24 hrs to pay Sh5 million bail after being arrested of failing to relay Sh20 million debt.
But politicians from Western region led by Sports minister Rashid Achesa mobilised for resources with Ruto chipping in.
“The DP was very kind enough to help us with his donation,” said Achesa.
Devolution minister Eugene Wamalwa also gave his Mercedes Benz as guarantee in Jirongo's debacles.
Ruto, whose ascendancy to power is termed by some as 'mystery', was part of President Daniel Moi's youth team christened Yk92 under Jirongo at that time.
Last year, Ruto opened up about his relationship with the former minister in Kakamega when he conceded that he used to be his boss.
"God works in many ways. I used to be Jirongo's errand boy but that's history. I now want him to join me in Jubilee. I'll still beat him if he can't join," he said.
While Ruto deputised Uhuru, Jirongo was in the presidential race even though he performed badly.
The DP is now closely working with Western Kenya leaders and with the latest development, he could convince his former boss to join his 2022 boat.
