Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has condemned the killing of a matatu conductor who was arrested on Tuesday evening by Kenyenya police officers and tortured to death.
The county boss on Wednesday evening while speaking in Kisii town said police officers should stop slaughtering innocent people.
"No one is above the law. I am condemning police officers for arresting and torturing Mr Onderi. Thorough investigations should be done for the deceased family to get justice," he said.
The ODM governor urged police officers to focus on dealing with criminals and not innocent people who are struggling to make ends meet.
"There are criminals terrorising our people and police should go for such criminals. Security officers must know they are mandated to protecting people and not killing them," he noted.
Ongwae said unnecessary arrests being made by police officers must stop because the officers may end up torturing suspects to death instead of taking them to court.
He urged residents of Kenyenya to be calm to allow detectives to investigate the matter and bring Mr Onderi's killers to book.
