President Uhuru Kenyatta will spend a night at either Kisii or Nyamira Counties when he visits later on this month, it has been established.
In his second ever trip to opposition bedrock Nyanza since his re-election, Uhuru will be ushered in by ODM leader Raila Odinga, with whom he's visiting the country to foster unity.
The trip, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko says, will last for two days and it's scheduled to start on January 23 and 24, 2019.
"The main agenda will be development. Our people wants to know how they will benefit from the handshake on development. He will be opening Oncology center in Kisii County first.
"Thereafter, he will traverse the two counties and is expected to take shelter in one of the County Commissioner's residences. The trip will also focus on uniting Gusii leaders," he said.
For the last decade, the region has backed Raila Odinga, who is the main organiser of the trip as a show of solidarity with the people of Gusii region.
The country's governance system is expected to feature with a source saying the president will use the occasion to kick start constitutional changes debate, an exercise that will see the country shifting from presidential to parliamentary system.
"I understand it's about development but again, the president is keen to back referendum. It will be used as a stepping stone to that," the source said in confidence.
