Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has urged Kenyans to help the country in boosting local tourism.
In an effort to create peace across the country and boost the economy, Joho said "it is prudent to promote domestic tourism as one of the tools for Building Bridges through fostering cultural exchange."
During his meeting with Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and the First Lady Isaura Nyusi at the recreational Haller Park in Mombasa over the weekend, Joho welcomed all holiday makers to Mombasa and the larger Coast region this festive season.
"As the festive season approaches, I wish to invite all holiday makers to Mombasa. I particularly wish to encourage Kenyans to visit Mombasa and the Coast," said Joho on Saturday.
The governor assured them of their security, saying tourism is a major boost to the country's economy.
Before leaving the country, President Nyusi also toured the Port of Mombasa where he was received by Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary Foreign Affairs Amb. Monica Juma, KPA Board Chairman General (Rtd) Joseph Kibwana, Acting Managing Director Dr Daniel Manduku and other top government officials.
